Michael Schmidt

Michael Schmidt is an investigative journalist with 19 years’ experience in the field as a print journalist and columnist for South Africa’s leading newspapers including a stint as Eastern Cape bureau chief for the Sunday Times, and the greenfields projects of the Independent on Saturday and ThisDay. A published author, website editor and writer for the alternative press, he worked for the now-defunct South African Union of Journalists. He is currently the training director at journalism training consultancy frayintermedia and is the convenor of the Professional Journalists’ Association.

Robert Brand 

(Rhodes Journalism, Grahamstown). 

Robert Brand teaches media ethics and economics journalism at Rhodes University. Before joining academia, he worked as a journalist for the Pretoria News, The Star and Bloomberg News.
